Our first concert this season kicks off with American Triptych by Jake Runestad, an award-winning artist and 2020 Grammy nominee who has been called “one of the best of the younger American composers.” The program also includes settings of favorite hymns and folk songs, and selected works by Black American composers.

We’re excited about our upcoming concert, and wanted to share a bit more about the program. As you might expect from the expansive title, The American Soul will cover a wide range of themes and works. Still, we’re the first to admit it will provide just a taste of the views and voices that comprise the American story!

The composers and authors included in the concert represent different historical eras, genders, races, orientations, parts of the country, and philosophies of life and living. We have famous historical figures along with living composers and authors. The music and texts were written by city folk, country folk, mountain and farm folk, and by common folk who will forever be unknown to us.

If you want to experience a mosaic of musical pieces that, taken together, help describe the American spirit, then this concert is for you!
