Auditions in 2024-2025

Auditions for our musical season typically take place in late August and early January. Our spring 2025 auditions will be on Fri Jan 10, at the Cary Arts Center (room M10) from 7-9:30pm. First rehearsal is Jan 13.

We invite you to indicate your interest in an audition (ages 18+) via the link below, and our Membership Chair will contact you.

Audition Specifics

Auditions will be with our Artistic Director Dr. Nathan Leaf. Each audition will be about 12 minutes long. You do not need to provide an accompanist or memorize any music.

What to Prepare for your Audition

Symphonic Choir candidates

The Symphonic Choir is our primary large ensemble that performs in most concerts; about 115 people (rehearsals Mondays 7:30-9:30pm). Please be prepared to sing either My Country, ‘Tis of Thee (PDF) or The First Noel (PDF) accompanied by our pianist (we will provide hard-copy printouts). The audition will also include vocalizing, sight reading of music, and other choral skill evaluation.

Chamber Choir candidates

The Chamber Choir is a select ensemble of about 35 people that performs for specific events. Advanced musicianship, strong music reading skills, and the ability to learn music independently are necessary. ​

Those who would like to be considered for the Chamber Choir should inform the audition panel at the audition, and prepare, in addition to the Symphonic Choir requirements, the following:

  1. a solo (or solo excerpt) of approximately two-minutes (bring a copy for the pianist if you would like accompaniment) and;

  2. the following musical excerpts:

      • Soprano: Measures 7-18
      • Alto: Measures 56-61
      • Tenor: Measures 38-41
