Our final concert of the 2024-25 season promises to touch and inspire you, featuring works by modern composers that address common issues in our human journey: aging and loss, growth and aspiration, the importance of community, and the vastness of the ocean and the cosmos.

Robert Cohen’s oratorio, Alzheimer’s Stories, is a musical reflection on the journey of Alzheimer’s sufferers and their caregivers. The piece is at times moving, inspirational, and even humorous.

Also featured in this program are three works by Jake Runestad, an award-winning composer and conductor, whose works have been called “highly imaginative” (Baltimore Sun) and “stirring and uplifting” (Miami Herald.} We couldn’t agree more!

Becoming the Ocean is a meditation on fear with text by the Lebanese-American writer Kahlil Gibran. The piece reminds us of the power of community, of joining together with others to become more powerful and more loved than we are on our own.

The Ways of Stars was inspired by the life of 19th-century scientist Maria Mitchell and by her description of a total solar eclipse that took place in 1869. Mitchell was the first woman to become a world-renowned professional astronomer, and she inspired countless students to push beyond society’s boundaries to be their very best and brightest.

The Secret of the Sea incorporates texts by Walt Whitman, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and other poets, and takes listeners on a dramatic musical journey, mirroring the journey of the human spirit while evoking the sights and sounds of the sea.

We hope to see you at our performance on Saturday, May 17th. The program takes place at 7:30PM at Westwood Baptist Church in Cary. Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for students (Pre-K thru 12) and can be purchased online.
