Holst: The Planets
A Performance with the North Carolina Symphony
About This Program
The Planets is an orchestral suite by the English composer Gustav Holst, written between 1914 and 1917. Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the Solar System and its supposed astrological character. (Holst excluded the Earth, because it has no astrological significance, and Pluto, which was not discovered until 1930.) The suite quickly became and has remained popular, influential and widely performed.
In this performance, the sopranos and altos of the CSC Symphonic Choir will join with the North Carolina Symphony in their Raleigh and Chapel Hill performances. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the NC Symphony website here.
