The Concert Singers perform a variety of programs in a variety of venues, both indoors and outdoors. Therefore, we have guidelines for more than the traditional formal black concert dress. Following are guidelines for an attire wardrobe that will work for various programs and venues. The Artistic Director will decide which ensemble we will wear for each program. As always, our goal is to maintain a professional and consistent appearance for all our concerts, while allowing ease, comfort and flexibility for performers.
Formal Black – Standard Concert Attire
Women: Black Concert Dress
Solid Black, floor length simple dress, or solid black skirt with black blouse – no velvet.
If you still have the black satin dress from past seasons, that’s fine. You may wear palazzo pants, as long as they look like a long skirt, once approved.
Blouse or dress bodice should be short to ¾ length sleeve, modest scoop, boat, square or v-neck.
No buttons, sheer or lace; no low-cut, tight or turtleneck tops
Closed toe black shoes, with black hose
Clothing fabric should be solid black, smooth and opaque. Wovens or knits are OK, no patterns or fancy embellishments.
Men: Formal Black Tuxedo
Black tuxedo, with white tuxedo shirt, wing-tip collar with flat pleats, black cummerbund, black bow tie, black socks, and black shoes.
Informal Black
For alternative performances and venues as director decides
Women:
Solid Black full-length dress pants, no velvet or jeans
Solid Black blouse or top as for the formal dress above
Closed toe black shoes
Clothing fabric should be smooth, opaque, and not transparent nor with any added detail.
Knit fabrics are OK as long as they fit the above criteria.
Men:
Long sleeve solid black shirt that can be collared like a dress shirt, or a turtleneck or mock turtleneck
Solid black slacks or trousers
Black socks and black shoes
Informal White & Black
For outdoor venues, such as Koka Booth Amphitheatre
Women:
Solid Black full-length dress pants or ankle-length skirt, no shorts, velvet or jeans
Mid-calf Capri pants may be worn at director’s discretion in hot weather.
Short or long-sleeve solid white blouse or top, as appropriate to the weather,
• May be button-down or pullover, collar, scoop, or modest v-neck,
• No casual t-shirts
Fabric should be opaque, not too sheer, overly shiny or embellished.
Shoes may be either closed toe or sandals, as appropriate to the weather
Men:
White short sleeve dress shirt
Solid black slacks or trousers
Black socks and black shoes
Jewelry and Accessories:
For all concerts, jewelry and hair accessories should be tasteful and simple, and not stand out excessively.
For outdoor concerts, a simple cardigan sweater in black or white may be approved as appropriate for the weather.
NO fragrances at rehearsals or concerts – no perfume, cologne, scented lotions or hair products.
